Connecting

Server URL

File Ninja prominently displays the server URL on the main screen. You can view this at any time by shaking the iPhone/iPod touch three times. A dialog box will pop up showing you the URL.

Bonjour

File Ninja includes Bonjour support and announces itself over the local network. We are working on tools to automatically detect and mount File Ninja instances using this technology.

In the meantime, on Mac OS X and Windows (with Bonjour for Windows installed), you can use your iPhone's name rather than the IP address to connect to your iPhone.

If your iPhone is called "Owomi" in iTunes, you can use the following URL to connect to File Ninja.

http://Owomi.local:8080

Mac OS X

You can connect to File Ninja using Finder on MacOSX. Select "Connect to Server" from the "Go" menu. Enter the server URL into the Server Address field and click Connect.
The keyboard shortcut for bringing up the "Connect to Server" dialog is "Apple-K".

Windows

Install this update to get the latest WebDAV client for Windows XP & Vista

Windows XP Setup
  1. Start -> My Network Places
  2. Select "Add Network Place"
  3. Next
  4. Select "Choose another network place"
  5. Enter the URL
  6. Enter a name for the connection
  7. Finish

Once this is done, you should see the location that you created when you open "My Network Places" in the future. Double clicking on this location will connect you to File Ninja on your phone.

Windows Vista
  1. Start->Computer
  2. Click "Map Network Drive"
  3. Enter the Server URL in the "Folder" field
  4. Finish

Once this is done, you can connect in the future by going to Start->Computer and clicking on this network drive.

Linux

These instructions have been tested on Ubuntu 9.04

First install davfs2
# apt-get install davfs2

Now, create the mount directory
# mkdir /media/file-ninja

And mount
# mount -t davfs http://ipaddress:port /media/file-ninja

Browser

File Ninja also provides read-only access to local files using a Web-Browser. You can view and download files to a computer using this method.

Simply point your browser to the Server URL and you will see a listing of your files.

Third Party Software

We recommend using the following software as WebDAV clients with File Ninja. They are both free and offer superior performance.

CyberDuck (Mac OS X, Free)

NetDrive (Windows, Free)
